Yennies Privacy Policy
Effective date: December 13, 2025
Yennies ("the App") is a personal budgeting app designed to work without creating an account and without sending your budgeting data to us. This Privacy Policy explains what information is (and isn't) collected when you use Yennies.
1. Who we are
Yennies is provided by Melvin Low ("we," "us," or "our").
Contact: dev@melvinlow.com
2. Quick summary
- No account required. No login, subscriptions, or payments through us.
- No automatic data collection. We do not collect analytics, tracking data, or your budgeting/receipt data.
- Local-first storage. Your budgets, transactions, and receipts are stored on your device.
- Optional Gemini AI features. If you enable them, certain receipt data may be sent from your device directly to Google using your own Gemini API key (not ours). We do not receive that data.
3. Information we collect (and don't collect)
3.1 Information the App collects automatically
None. We do not collect or receive:
- Names, email addresses, phone numbers
- Payment information
- Precise location
- Contacts
- Device identifiers for tracking
- Analytics, telemetry, or advertising data
- Your budgets, transactions, categories, notes, receipts, or receipt metadata
We do not use advertising or tracking SDKs.
3.2 Information you choose to provide to us
If you contact us by email, we will receive the information you include in your message (for example, your email address and the contents of your email). We use that information only to respond and provide support.
4. Information stored on your device
Information you add to Yennies—such as budgets, transactions, categories, notes, receipt images, and receipt metadata—is stored locally on your device. We do not operate servers that store your budgeting or receipt data, and we cannot access it.
Your device settings (including iCloud backup settings) may affect whether local app data is backed up.
5. Optional Gemini AI features for receipts (using your API key)
Yennies includes optional features that use Google's Gemini API ("Gemini") to help you work with receipts, including:
- Semantic search (search receipts by meaning, not just exact keywords)
- Receipt information extraction (e.g., merchant name, amount, date)
- Smart categorization (suggested categories based on receipt content)
You can use Yennies without enabling any Gemini features.
5.1 What happens if you enable Gemini features
If you choose to use these features, Yennies may send certain information from your device to Google so Gemini can process it. Depending on what you do in the App, this may include:
- Receipt images you select to process
- Receipt text or metadata (e.g., merchant name, totals, dates, categories, notes) if available in the App
- Your search queries or prompts related to receipts
Yennies does not send this information to our servers.
5.2 Your API key (not ours)
- Gemini requests are made using your own Gemini API key.
- Your API key is stored locally on your device and is not sent to us.
- We do not proxy, relay, or store your Gemini requests or responses on our servers.
- You can remove/disable the key at any time in the App's settings.
5.3 What we do (and don't) receive
- We do not receive, store, or log the receipt data you submit to Gemini or the results Gemini returns.
- Any data sent to Gemini is transmitted directly between your device and Google.
5.4 Third-party terms and policies
When you use Gemini, Google's handling of that data is governed by Google's terms and privacy policies, not ours. We do not control Google's practices, including any collection, retention, or use of data by Google. Please review Google's policies before enabling Gemini features.
6. Permissions
Yennies may request optional access to:
- Camera — to take receipt photos.
- Photos / Files — to import receipt images.
These permissions are used only for app functionality on your device. We do not upload your receipts to our servers. If you enable Gemini features, the specific information you choose to process may be transmitted to Google as described above.
7. Sharing of information
Because we do not collect your budgeting or receipt data, we do not sell, rent, or share your personal information.
The only time receipt-related data may leave your device is when you choose to use the optional Gemini features, in which case it is transmitted to Google.
8. Data retention and deletion
Because Yennies stores your data locally, you control retention:
- Delete individual entries/receipts within the App (if supported).
- Delete all locally stored App data by uninstalling Yennies.
If you use Gemini, any retention of data by Google is governed by Google's policies and your Google account/API settings.
9. Security
We take reasonable measures within the App to help protect locally stored data. However, no method of storage is 100% secure. You should protect your device (e.g., passcode/Face ID) and keep your Gemini API key private.
10. Children's privacy
Yennies is not directed to children under 13 (or the age defined by local law), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will update the "Effective date" and make the updated policy available wherever this policy is posted.
